Grade 3

To Dr. Jay Gilbert with great respect, admiration, and gratitude, from all the musicians, students, colleagues, and friends you have touched over an illustrious career at Doane University.

Dr. Jay Warren Gilbert

Dr. Jay Gilbert is a native Wisconsinite with degrees from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (BME, ‘79), Northwestern University (MM, ‘86), and Northwestern University (DMA, ‘93). He has public school teaching experience at Evansville Middle School in Evansville, Wisconsin, and Whitefish Bay Junior and Senior High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. He served as Assistant Director of Bands at Baylor University before accepting the Director of Bands position at Doane University in 1993.

Jay Gilbert's experiences are vast and varied as he has been an active conductor, clinician, and speaker across the country. He is very active in the Crete, NE community and in his church, as well as in various civic organizations. His unique abilities as a recruiter, builder, and fundraiser has established the Doane band program as an outstanding musical and educational pillar in the state of Nebraska and region. Jay’s incredible musicianship, conducting and rehearsing skills, and his genuine care and love for his University, band program, and students is truly amazing and inspiring. While his incredible contribution to the Doane University band and music program is exemplary, the lasting friendships and legacy he has built will certainly be with us all forever.

The consortium members would like to honor Dr. Gilbert with this Grace Baugher Dunlap composition to show our respect, admiration, appreciation, and gratitude for twenty nine incredible years of music education and music making at Doane University.

Thank you Dr. Jay Gilbert and Mrs. Laura Gilbert for all you have meant to so many organizations, schools, students, colleagues, and communities. We are all better because of you.
