Composer’s Note:

Finding the Sun was created in 2019 as part of my thesis project during my masters degree. The piece originated in 3 different difficulty levels as a way to discuss the pros and cons of our band grading systems. As one of my early band projects, I relied heavily on those charts and what I found was that they didn’t tell the whole story. I learned much about what worked and what didn’t. I also discovered, as I heard these pieces played by real musicians, that there were many strong elements that translated well to live performances while others just sounded good on my Finale playback. This edition (2022) of Finding the Sun is constructed of the best from my intermediate and advanced versions of the original work.
